Look no further! Here’s an incredible opportunity for you! Join our brand-new scratch choir and take the stage at Bristol Beacon!

This August, the vibrant Hand in Hand Festival arrives in Bristol for three days of LGBTQ+ choir performances from across the UK and Ireland. Each choir brings its own unique sound and talent, promising a spectacular showcase of excellence.

As part of this festival extravaganza, we’re inviting LGBTQ+ individuals to participate in community singing by joining our newly-formed scratch choir. We offer supportive and enjoyable opportunities to learn music, connect with others, and ultimately deliver a stellar performance on stage at the Bristol Beacon.

Who is this for?

This is for individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ or allies and supporters of the LGBTQ+ community who are new to community singing and who seek a positive, social, and cultural experience. That means you!

All you need:

  • Enthusiasm and a passion for singing on stage
  • Commitment to learning songs and attending rehearsals
  • Register by 01 June 2024
  • Attend our introductory sessions on 05 June (online) and 12 June (in-person)
  • Engage in rehearsals (both online and in-person) with our skilled music directors throughout June and July
  • Perform on stage at Bristol Beacon on 17 August

For Bristol singers:

As a bonus, after the festival, you can continue singing with a local LGBTQ+ choir, and we’ll cover your membership subscription!

£50, reduced to £0 thanks to support from The National Lottery Community Fund

  • Online rehearsals: 26 June, 10 July, 24 July, 07 August 2024

Terms and Conditions
  1. Eligibility: Participation in the Hand in Hand Festival Scratch Choir is open to individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ or allies and supporters of the LGBTQ+ community. By registering for the choir, participants affirm their eligibility and commitment to abide by these terms and conditions.
  2. Registration: Registration for the scratch choir requires completion of the online registration form available on the Hand in Hand Festival website. Participants must register by the specified deadline to secure their place in the choir.
  3. Commitment: We encourage all participants to attend as many rehearsals as possible to contribute to the success of the choir. Regular attendance enhances our cohesion and performance quality. While we understand that life can be unpredictable, we kindly ask that participants make every effort to attend scheduled rehearsals and the final performance at Bristol Beacon. Your presence and participation greatly enrich the choir experience for everyone involved.
  4. Behaviour: Participants are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and supportive manner towards fellow choir members, directors, and organisers. Any form of discrimination, harassment, or disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in immediate dismissal from the choir.
  5. Rehearsals and Performances: Participants must attend all scheduled rehearsals and the final performance at Bristol Beacon, as outlined in the provided schedule. Failure to attend rehearsals without valid reasons may result in removal from the performance lineup.
  6. Membership Subscriptions: Participants from Bristol who choose to continue singing in a local LGBTQ+ choir after the festival will have their membership subscription covered by the organisers for up to six months. This offer is contingent upon active participation in the scratch choir and attendance at the final performance.
  7. Fees: While there is a nominal fee associated with participation in the scratch choir, this fee is waived thanks to support from The National Lottery Community Fund. Participants are responsible for any additional expenses incurred during the course of their participation, such as travel or accommodation.
  8. Liability: The organisers of the Hand in Hand Festival Scratch Choir are not liable for any loss, injury, or damage incurred by participants during rehearsals, performances, or related activities. Participants are advised to obtain appropriate insurance coverage for their participation.
  9. Changes and Cancellations: The organisers reserve the right to make changes to the rehearsal schedule, performance dates, or any other aspect of the scratch choir if necessary. Participants will be notified of any changes in a timely manner.
  10. Agreement: By registering for the Hand in Hand Festival Scratch Choir, participants acknowledge that they have read and understood these terms and conditions and agree to comply with them throughout their participation in the choir.
